Alright, guys this is getting a little out of hand. Seems that we are getting a lot of posts in the wrong sections, especially for sale posts, but there have been others as well. Please take the time to check the correct section before posting, it's just pure laziness. It only takes an extra second to find the right section, and it's a pain to go through the forum cleaning up and moving posts around. Especially with for sale posts, I would hate to do this, because there are so few people selling parts and I don't want to limit the availability even more. But if we can't start posting in the right sections, I may start simply deleting errant topics instead of reorganizing them. So please just take that extra second to notice where you are posting, whether it's a help question, a sale post, a wanted request whatever it is we have a section for it. If we don't let me know, but there is no excuse to post a for sale post in the MK1 engine section etc.

Could we have a "test" category for posts like my GTi horn button or the ability to post photos in PM's that doesn't require a photo host site account?

Make the test section a limited length in time so if a post is more than say 2 weeks old it is deleted.

[usermention=65]@top down@-40[/usermention] Ultimately what we need is a gallery of sorts, one is in the works, but it may be quite a while due to time, money and availability of the extension I want to use. In the meantime I have gone ahead and created a new forum category to help fill this void. http://ssgtirep.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=55 The idea is that you can create your own thread and just use it to post your photos that way you can easily find them for reuse later until we get a gallery. No commenting in that category or text just photos so it's not cluttered up with lots of junk and still easy to find your photos. I know it's not ideal, but does that help? I've also enabled attachments within PM's, and I think I can enable the regular photo upload within PM's as well I just have to hunt a little more, I'll update you when I figure it out.

You're welcome to post things you want to try out on that thread as well, I was mainly just using it for testing out new features as I add them etc so I don't junk up the forum. I think you may like the new photos category better though for your purpose.

I just don't want to clutter up the regular forum with photos where the only purpose is to show another member something pertaining to a PM without having to get an image host site.

TS had the test category so people could experiment with adding photos, videos etc. without polluting the rest of the forum. Here when I need to post a photo in a PM I can't do it so anywhere I can post a photo related to a PM is fine. I just don't want to put them in the regular post categories.

PS, you can delete the horn button thread if you want. The images have been seen by the persons that needed to see them.

[usermention=65]@top down@-40[/usermention] I understand, but I've missed being able to quickly find my photos for reuse when I want to reference them in a comment on a post. So feel free to upload photos to the new section and just leave them in place, that's what it is there for. Alternatively if you don't want anyone to see your photos, what I have been doing is just opening up a post window on a seperate tab and uploading the photos on that tab then grabbing the links out without ever clicking submit. If you don't click submit the photos are still uploaded and the links still work because uploading them happens external to the site... Even if you cancel your post they now still exist on imgur.

Anyhow it's a bit of a workaround but that's what I've been doing for the posts I've been porting from teamswift, I paste all the text into the post where I'm working, then I go back and fix up the text and image links as I go uploading the images and copying the links for use in my real post from a second tab that I just cancel when I'm finished. If I try to do it all in the same window it puts the images at the bottom and it's annoying to try and copy them to the right spots.

So when you are composing your PM if you just open up a new tab/window and start a post anywhere on the site you can upload your photos and copy the links to your PM then just close that window without clicking submit. Basically what you are doing already but just without clicking submit.

That appears to work Ivan, Thanks

Glad to help! I'm sorry it's a kludgy solution, but hopefully there will be a better one in the near future. As always let me know if there is anything I can do to help!
