I have never seen a MKI Firefly like this with sealed beams until this image today. I have only seen Canadian models with the flush composite head lamps. Also never heard of the FE model, just base, LE, SE and Turbo. Canada did not get the M car until 1987 so this is weird to me.

Of course it's Canadian... my point is we didn't sell these in '86.

I had a blue one with those headlights and it was a Firefly. It was an '86

Well knock my socks off. I need to call George Zappora at GM Historical in Oshawa and see what they have to say. I worked at the Chev Dealer at this time and the first one we got was an '87. Strange that Pontiac would get these first.

I seem to recall the west coast getting them before we did, I think in 84 or 85. The cars still had leaf spring suspension in the rear and may have been Forsas and not Fireflys, but they were early Mk1 cars.

The US west coast got them in '85. Leaf springs were phased out with the end of production of the '86 model. Canada, I used to believe, never got a leaf spring M car. This rocks my Firefly world and I wonder if any still exist? topdown says he bought one but it makes no sense that GM would test market in Canada. I want one, especially if it had no Chevrolet stable mate.
This is where a true Suzuki person would laugh at me.

Not sure what you mean by test market in Canada if the States already had them but Hyundai used Canada as a test market for the first 4 years before they entered the States. They were the top selling import in the mid 80's!

They were test marketed on the US west coast in '85, then went US nation wide in '86. There would be no need to offer a similar programme in Canada, and only with Pontiac. Now I wonder if there was a Sprint in Canada in '86. We surely never saw any at the dealer.

I bought one as a parts car for my 88 Sprint but found few parts were easily interchangeable. Even the mount holes in the fenders around the headlights were different. Square instead of round holes and things like that. Of course the gauges and switches were totally different. I ended up not using any of it but for $50 for the whole car, who cares.

I would have sworn that it was an '85 but you say they weren't around in '85 so it must have been an '86. The hood release was a black plastic rectangle in the front of the hood visible in the first picture.
