i may be on the hunt for a different job- there are issues at work that are having an effect on moral and overall atmosphere…

the new parts guy has found a different job :-( so possibly back to the grumpy , useless parts guy maybe
my son may try the job, but then his job of repairing tools- wont get done.

been hearing about issues about making payroll, the boss has sold a few hockey cards to keep the shop afloat-
my boss is a really nice guy, but cant see the forest thru the trees-we all told him, employees AND customers, that the old parts guy needs to go- but he doesnt have the balls to do it-
he would rather watch his business go belly up, by keeping a grumpy front line person employed, than move ahead and find a good replacement.
we have been telling him this for many months now.
this place needs a owner/ operator to be run more efficiently
but the boss has been more pre-occupied about ice fishing these last few weeks….
he did a knee jerk reaction and tried another parts person- they have zero experience, could not use a tape measure, could not even do the cash out on the till…. :-o the good parts guy told them that this job is not for you. caught them on their phone twice when they were looking up parts…he said outright '‘that doesnt look good-first day here and you are on your phone texting…TWICE!!! ’'
i enjoy this job, but dont enjoy the fear of looking for another job…

for the shop being closed for a week, it hasnt been that busy….

i thought about opening my own shop- but buildings are damn expensive- i would refuse to stay in the building where we are at, if i bought the business- the landlord is a slumlord, at best….the building is in poor shape-very poor shape-
finding a vacant building, to suit the needs of a small repair shop- isnt easy. i have been looking- but it is very limited to what is out there.

boss did re-assure me that everything is going well…

been steady, but not busy, at work-there is a new guy coming in this morning for an interview for the parts person job- he has many years of experience , and is a red seal ticketed parts person!

i am elbows deep into a 35hp, 1000 cc v-twin kohler :-o that the customer wants rebuilt.

and whatever else comes in for fixing- but it has been slow- and doing inventory-now thats really messed up-the inventory is way out of count. and its a search mission to find the parts that are supposed to be in inventory- :bored:
all in a days work~

jump for joy -the boss FINALLY let the old parts guy go- so its up to my son and i to search up and order parts for whatever we are working on….and deal with customers that come thru the door-
big pile of invoices from the old parts guy- now to sort out that mess-
should be alot smoother around there, with the old grumpy guy gone- and thats how everyone described him…!!!

Good luck sorting out the old mess.

there are still parts arriving that the old guy ordered-and they are the wrong parts :-o imagine that!!
i told the boss, that it will take awhile to get thru the mess of incorrect and /or non-ordered parts for customers.
the office lady is getting upset that i am ordering parts one at a time, instead of waiting to build an order- these are parts that i am ordering AGAIN, but the correct parts this time, cuz the other parts guy has already screwed up. and the customer has been waiting for their tool for 2 months or more-
one tool was waiting over a year, because the previous parts guy ordered the wrong part- but then didnt order the correct part, cuz the office lady bitched about the shipping- (the previous parts guy NEVER charged the customer the shipping fees, the shop just ate that expense)
i told the boss that it will take a few months to figure out the mess that the previous parts guy created.
my boss figures it will take a year , at least, by the time everything is figured out.

but it sure is interesting, i can get lots of parts, from our current parts vendors, that the previous parts guy said were unavailable - the previous parts guy is old , and was stuck in his ways- if it meant looking for a part on the internet, he would not dig any deeper.
he was basically stuck in the stone age, with a hammer and chisel to make his order sheets- ha ha

he would still phone or fax away orders- :-o - when the parts supplier offers full online ordering, which is ALOT easier.

and if the office lady tries being a bitch towards my son, about incorrect orders from the previous parts guy, i will give her what for- dont berate my son over something that the previous guy fucked up on. she has already tried that. he has told her that as well- he is dealing with the screw-ups from the previous guy.
it is a fulltime job, just trying to figure out the previous parts guy screw-ups- lots of time and money wasted.

has been getting busier at work- i hope my son and i can keep up with customers , ordering parts and fixing stuff at the same time….but we both are falling behind-

finished rebuilding a 35hp, 998 cc v-twin kohler engine yesterday-bores were good, but rings and valve guides worn out.
so, new rings and guides, all new seals and gaskets- runs pretty damn good. :-D

and still more previous parts guy screw ups :-( found invoices from JULY, that the parts had never been ordered- what the hell was the old guy doing???? obviously not his job!
